Sustainable Community Planning

Truly sustainable community planning means creating communities that are self-sufficient and self-replicating. Our goal is to inspire people and create a global shift; for that to happen a working model with widespread appeal must be created. It should be affordable, applicable across a diversity of cultures, available to everyone, created so that normal people with average knowledge and little or no experience can reproduce it, and it must have a marketing engine capable of exposing enough people to build the necessary momentum for it to continue on its own. This is what One Community is creating  and this page is about the journey to where we are now and where we are going.

FROM START TO IDENTIFYING THE PROPERTY

One Community started over 15 years ago with a vision for a full-immersion health and healing eco-retreat hosting visitors and guest speakers. Over the last decade that vision expanded to include a full community of people sharing their gifts and building complete sustainability as diverse and duplicable eco-villages. Three years ago we started looking for a property with enough space, water, weather favorable to food production and comfort, and a location that supports our invitation to the world through scholarship and tourism plans. After about two years of looking we located the property we were looking for and the project began to accelerate.

2 YEARS FOLLOWING PROPERTY IDENTIFICATION

After identifying the property we built our first website and started building the Pioneer Team. Collectively we invested over 7000 hours in the project following the advice of interested investors and our consultants by clarifying our mission and long-term goals, talking to people and adding to our partners group, working on the details of Pod 1, our business plan, our food infrastructure, our energy infrastructure, and growing our team of Community Pioneers ready to move on the property on day one. We also completed our simplified site: sustainabilitynonprofit.org.

LONG-TERM SUSTAINABLE COMMUNITY PLANNING

Each phase of the 4 phases of the One Community sustainable communities strategy (demonstration, open source information sharing, immersion, and inspiration) builds upon prior phases to create a planning model that builds sustainable communities capable of teaching other people to build sustainable communities. We see this as essential to long-term sustainable world development and that is why it is the purpose of our non-profit organization: creating open source blueprints for a sustainable civilization.
